The Mediator’s Role

Our trained and specialist Mediators are independent and impartial to the participants within and throughout the Mediation process. It is their role to help participants manage the Mediation process, providing them with a safe environment to explore options available in their specific circumstances.

Mediators provide impartial information. They can not:
  • provide advice
  • determine the outcome of the process
  • impose decisions
  • make judgement

Mediation Process

The process is voluntary. It requires all participants to be willing to engage within it and for the Mediator to establish that the process is safe and suitable, having considered all the information provided by potential participants.

Step 1: Referral
Step 2: Individual MIAMs arranged if possible for all potential participants
Step 3: Willingness established
Step 4: Suitability determined
Step 5: Mediation session / sessions arranged for all participants. The number of sessions is dependent upon each specific case. The sessions may involve Child Inclusive Mediation (CIM) or third parties if all consent to this.
Step 6: Mediation concludes. The Mediator will establish with the participants what the options are for them.
